Abstract

The reflections that integrate this article can be understood as an attempt to review and formulate analytical alternatives of the critical perspective of  the relation of mathematics education and democracy that can be formed from the cultural matrix belonging to this region of the Latin American continent: the Colombian context. The challenge assumed consists of being congruent with the re-signification of social, cultural and historical modes of production of analytical categories that the critical cultural and political vision has introduced in the field of mathematics education. It is a question of locating the focus of the critique in the issue of the control of globalizations over the formative power of mathematics in order to read it as the intensification of a special type of capital, called cognitive capital, at the service of the production of homogenization.  His presentation begins with a location of the scenario of the critical perspectives of mathematics education in the European and North American proposals, critical mathematics education and the socio-political turn, respectively. Next, the critical visions of education on problematic issues in Latin America are described.  Thirdly, we proceed to describe the mechanisms of homogenization of cultural appropriation of mathematics in the Colombian context. Finally, we try to ratify the cultural space from which to formulate a possible critical perspective of mathematics education in relation to democracy, Diversity in the Colombian context. With this position, it is clear that we seek to contribute to problematize the analysis on the critical perspective of mathematics education in the Colombian context, based on the need to generate spaces that open the way to the search for relevance and meaning of the critical perspective of mathematics education in relation to the crisis of mathematics education our cultural and historical matrix.
